Woodlands

"Outstanding" (Cabernet Sauvignon) - Langton's Fine Wine Classification IV
5 Star Winery - Halliday Wine Companion

"Established in 1973 by David and Heather Watson, Woodlands is one of Margaret River's first five wineries. Woodlands produces wine from its two vineyards, both located in the Wilyabrup Valley of Margaret River. The original Woodlands Vineyard is located on Caves Road, while the Woodlands Brook Vineyard is located two kilometres to the northeast. Woodlands' Vineyards are dry grown and maintained by hand using organic and traditional methods. Wines produced include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Merlot blends, and Chardonnay. All Woodlands wines are made on site by the Watson family." - Your Margaret River Region

"The quality of the grapes has never been in doubt. A priceless core of 6.8 ha of cabernet sauvignon planted more than 30 years ago, joined more recently by merlot, malbec, cabernet franc, pinot noir and chardonnay. The two estate vineyards (the second on Puzey Road, called Woodlands Brook Vineyard) are, except for 1 ha of chardonnay and pinot noir, planted to the Bordeaux varieties. Whatever the shortcomings of the 1990s, these days Woodlands is producing some spectacular wines in small quantities. The larger volume Cabernet Sauvignon is also of very high quality, and Woodlands is now a major player in the top echelon of Margaret River producers."- James Halliday Wine Companion 2009

"From our 30 year old vines, unirrigated and low yielding. Aged in new and old French oak barriques for 18 months. One of our best vintages of this style. This wine shows riper fruit and more toasty oak than the 2000, and in our opinion will surpass it...
