“Grown on a vineyard on Saleyard Road in the Barossa Valley. Nero d’avila “grafted onto 25+ year old Semillon vines, on deep cracking Biscay soil. I am working out that Nero really doesn’t like too much water during ripening, so with the exception of one really big drink, 2015 was a great year for this wine. One small batch (less than 2 tonne) with a portion pressed early and the balance pressed after 8 months. It’s a cracking drink. Jubey. Earthen. Sweet-smelling in an aniseed-like way but complemented by ample dry, spicy tannin in the mouth. Plenty of linger. Accessible and easy but with just enough complexity. It’s a wine to win folks over. Indeed it’s a drink-it-by-the-responsible-bucket-load kind of wine.”
