Elena Walch Ludwig Pinot Nero 2020

GOLD! DECANTER WINE AWARDS 95 POINTS!
FROM SUDTIROL HIGH IN ITALY'S ALPINE REGION BORDERING AUSTRIA, AN INTENSE PINOT NERO

"Lavish layers of raspberry and red cherry fruit infused with vibrant floral aromatics; concentrated and pure with a touch of spicy oak and a deliciously crunchy finish." - Decanter Wine Awards

"This is a bold and smoky pinot with aromas of grilled mushrooms, burnt sage, currants and mocha. Medium-bodied with rich toasty undertones to the sun-kissed dark berry fruit, accompanied by bright acidity and compact tannins." - James Suckling

"Elena Walch is considered a pioneer in Alto Adige, not only for the fact that she was one of the most important female winemakers in Italy, but also for introducing innovation into the region. Marrying into the Walch family she gained access to some of the best parcels of fruit, and subsequently sought to improve production from soil to bottle.

Landholdings are focused around two historic villages in the heart of the region; Kaltern to the north, and Tramin to the south, the same village that gave the noble variety gewürztraminer its name.

The cellars were built sustainably – from natural stone, underground – nearly 150 years ago in Tramin, and since then have been continually modernized and remodeled to become what they are today - one of Alto Adige’s longest standing private cellars. The most modern wines are all handcrafted here, with respect for the environment and in harmony with nature and in the spirit of ongoing sustainability, using grapes from the best vineyards. The wines of Elena Walch are as iconic as the woman herself. These are wines of distinction and pedigree." - Elena Walch
