[SOLD-OUT] Yeringberg Cabernets 2011

Further testament to both vine age and the merits & complexity of our vineyard blend, which allow the wine to rise above an otherwise challenging year. Classic blackcurrant, cigar box and tapenade aromas, overlaid with notes of violet, Christmas cake and sweet spices, lead onto a supple, savoury and effortless palate that builds towards a long & lively finish. A wine of understated generosity that offers immediate appeal, but one that really deserves a number of years in the cellar to fully demonstrate its quiet sophistication.
Sandra de Pury, Yeringberg.
Of the top vintages, 1991, 1998, 2005 and 2010 were outstanding. Great wines all. The 2010 is 62per cent cabernet sauvignon, 11 per cent cabernet franc, 10per cent merlot, 10 per cent malbec and 7 per cent petit verdot. It's a classic as we might expect, from a top year, but the truly surprising vintage was the 2011 " a horrendously wet season when few memorable red wines of the fuller-bodied varieties were made in southern Victoria. This wine is an exception: a very stylish wine with no sign of greener fruit characters or other wet-year problems. There's slightly less cabernet sauvignon in the blend, but no lack of intensity, weight or colour when compared with prior vintages.

This is a wholly amazing wine from a wet vintage in which white wines did best, pinots were light, and few people attempted full-bodied reds. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, malbec and petit verdot, 2011 is a deep, bright purple-red colour and has bright red fruit aromas of raspberry, cranberry and cherry. The oak was very sensitively handled. A delicious, fruit-driven wine, it's intense, persistent and balanced. It is a stunning success for this troubled vintage with no sign of greenness or weakness in colour or body.
