POWERFUL RED WINE, DEMONSTRATING THE RISE OF AUSTRALIAN GRENACHE

"Lifted dried roses strawberry graphite aromas with hint musky notes. Well-balanced wine with voluminous strawberry raspberry, musky plum fruits, fine loose knit chalky textures, superb mid-palate density and integrated mineral acidity. Superb layered wine with wonderful fruit complexity and energy. " - Andrew Caillard

"The class, the purity, the lacy feels - it's a damn fine drink. Grenache lovers, this is heavenly. Sourced from the certified organic and biodynamic block adjacent to the famed High Sands, the vines were planted in 1946. Fermented in ceramic eggs for 13 months and on skins for 133 days (2020 saw 176 days on skins), this sees no pressings and no oak. The ceramic vessel ensures the juicy fruit sings. Raspberries open proceedings with blueberries, pomegranate and red currants. Time in the glass sees drunken red cherries, red licorice, a hint of orange peel and a flash of cola emerge. A feathering of texture compliments the super fine tannin profile. And then there is that sexy length! Most samples come and go but there are some that leave quite an impression and the Ovitelli does it time and time again each year. Usually sold out in quick time, I can't see this release bucking that trend. Don't walk - run!" - Q Wine Reviews

"Deep-ish red-purple colour, bright and glowing; the bouquet is reserved but is spicy, earthy and red-fruited with hints of Turkish delight, and the wine comes into its own in the mouth, where it's full-bodied and powerfully structured, with excellent concentration, drive and persistence. There is density and richness, fleshy extract, masses of tannin and a big finish. A grenache of real gravitas" - Huon Hooke

"A linear and tight grenache with long and very intense fruit and tannins. Blackberry, dark cocoa powder and dusty. Chewy and very fine tannined. Excellent length and power. Needs three or four years to come around. From biodynamically grown grapes." - James Suckling

"From 1946 plantings, adjacent to High Sands. Gets a whopping 133 days on skins (the High Sands a more modest 21 days). Raised only in ceramic eggs. My word, the rise and rise of Grenache in this country is something to behold, and as a hard core Nebbiolo enthusiast, I find a kinship in this wine.

Red cherry, raspberry, liquorice root, lemon thyme, orange peel, pepper and exotic spice, rosehip. It’s fleshy with superb graphite tannin, rich flavour but with no excess, the botanical and citrus peel perfume, the succulent raspberry and redcurrant, the tang and freshness, even some smoky bacon things and black tea, but so tight, and so right, with a finish that carries on and on, much like my prose, perhaps. If this wine is my muse, then so be it. Throw yourself on to the rocks of this delight. It’s siren song is strong. Your passage is a modest $80. Pleasure awaits." - Wine Front

"Sourced from Block 30, planted in 1946, which is adjacent to the High Sands Block. Hand-picked and selectively berry sorted. 100% destemmed, crushed and tipped into 675L ceramic eggs. The fermentation occurred in the eggs and remained on skins for 133 days post fermentation. No pressings are used in this wine. Matured exclusively in the ceramic eggs for a total of 13 months." - Yangarra
