Wynns Coonawarra Estate Michael Hermitage is a limited release wine, made only in exceptional years, which demonstrates the Shiraz variety at its best and perpetuates Wynn's impressive reputation for producing some of Australia's finest red wines. Blessed with another great Coonawarra vintage, the 1991 Wynns Michael Hermitage is a grand successor to the landmark, trophy-winning 1990 Michael Hermitage. The wine is inky, almost black in colour, due to the tremendous depth of rich red-purple hues. Voluminous fruit and oak complexity have given the wine a rich aroma of dark chocolate and mint. Strong mulberry and peppery Shiraz fruit dominates the bouquet which is integrated with coffee bean barrel ferment and charry oak characters. It is a big, rich and full-bodied wine, with abundant sweet ripe fruit, beautifully balanced by oak and firm tannins. The Shiraz spice and pepper varietal characteristics combined with its mouth filling, sweet fruit flavour tends to mask some of the wine's enormity, adding softness and enabling it to be very enjoyable at an early age. Alc/Vol: 13.5%. Notes sourced from Wynns. Awards: Championship, 1993 Royal Melbourne Wine Show Trophy & Gold, 1994 Perth Royal Wine Show Trophy & Gold, 1993 Royal Melbourne Wine Show Gold, 1995 Canberra Wine Show Gold, 1995 International Wine & Spirit Competition
