Campbell Mattinson 95 points!"The 2006 Wynns Coonawarra Estate John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon was matured in 100 percent new French oak for 22 months. I took one swig of it and thought, There's a fair bit of wine here ...
This is the kind of deep, plush, cabernet-to-its-back-teeth wine that could really set your heart both on Coonawarra, and cabernet itself. It sings sweetly of both. It tastes of blackcurrant, tobacco, mint and freshly polished cedarwood and its tannins hit early in the wine and then carry on throughout - though they never really overpower the wine. It's part of what makes this wine seem classical. There's an olive-like strike here too, black olive that is, and a minor (very minor) amount of dark chocolate too. Balanced, structured, concentrated and persistent
