“It’s a bit like the 1996 in style I’d suggest in that it’s firm and has structure over fruit volume. That’s a vintage some love (me) and others don’t so much. Blackcurrant, strong menthol character, tobacco and pencil. It’s firm and muscular with the graphite-like tannin that’s typical of many from this vintage dominating the palate. Controlled and strict, but with ample fruit, it’s a long way away from the round ball of mid-palate fruit that so many Coonawarra Cabs show. Here’s a serious wine that will need decades to unwind. ” - Gary Walsh, Wine Front
"The best Black Label Cabernet in years.
Classic Coonawarra red in classic form, with lovely cedar and leaf over a solidly rich - yet svelte palate. .. acidity perhaps, a full stop to what is otherwise a lovely flowing wine. Still, everything else about this wine is wonderful, with great tannins and a perfect oak balance. I have faith. " - Andrew Graham, Oz Wine Review
"Something is comforting about Black Label: a reliable Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon and an excellent, well-priced wine. The 2010 is the 55th vintage of Black Label. This, too, is approachable for a young cabernet; with ripe, luscious tannins, it is full-bodied yet balanced and delicious. Deep and fine, its rich fruit melds with spice, chocolate, a hint of herbs and earthiness. Tannins are ripe and round, the oak is neatly integrated, and it finishes long." - Jane Faulkner, The Age
