Campbell Mattinson 92+ Points!"It's interesting to compare the Woodlands Reserve Cabernet Merlot with the standard offering. This Reserve is a blend of cabernet sauvignon (70 percent), merlot (19 percent) and malbec. It spends 18 months in French oak.
The Reserve has the flesh, the 'standard' cabernet merlot has the structure. You'd almost call it counter-intuitive; though here it certainly does work. This wine is bright with gamey, woody, fruity flavour. It has lots of pure, ripe, boysenberry/blackcurrant-like fruit flavour combined with autumnal, undergrowthy, gamey elements. Drinking it is a sordid entertainment. Naturally then, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not a fruit bomb; it does have tannin support; but most of its appeal is in the savoury/fruity impact. Its complexity will only build. "
