Torbreck

5 Star Winery - Halliday Wine Companion
"Exceptional" (RunRig Shiraz); "Excellent" (Descendant Shiraz Viognier) - Langton's Fine Wine Classification IV

"Since 1994 Torbreck has been committed to creating exceptional Rhone style red and white wines reflecting the very best vineyards in Australia’s famous Barossa." - Torbreck

"one of Australia's best-known high quality red wine makers" - James Halliday

"...home to some of the oldest vines on the planet... The Torbreck endeavour is based around the classic Rhone varietals of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro, from mostly old vines scattered throughout the microclimates of the Barossa. Whilst Torbreck specialises in making red wines, there is Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne planted on our Descendant vineyard which we blend into white wine. The first wine was the 1995 Runrig crushed from just three tonnes of Shiraz and Viognier grapes.

Torbreck’s long term vision of 100% estate produced and bottled wine reached completion in 2008 when a new winery and administration facility was opened on land acquired from a next door neighbour. This facility enables our grapes to be handpicked, vinified into wine using the best available equipment, matured in temperature controlled cellars and then bottled ‘on the estate’ using a state of the art bottling line, before being shipped to many of the world’s best restaurants and fine wine retailers." - Tourism Barossa

Robert Parker 99 points!"Constantly flirting with perfection, the 2001 Run Rig is a worthy successor to the blockbuster surreal 1998. A blend of 97% Shiraz and 3% Viognier, this is Torbreck's flagship offering. Sadly, there are only 1,500 cases produced...

Robert Parker 97 points! There are 800 cases of the 1999 Run Rig, an unfined/unfiltered beauty of remarkable concentration and intensity. This Shiraz cuvee spends 30 months in 100% new French oak, and approximately 3% Viognier is added to the blend...

Robert Parker 98 points!"Torbeck's 1997 Run Rig is spectacular. I have been blown away by prior efforts, and this huge, exotic wine, which offers up blueberry liqueur, cassis, flowers, a touch of overripe peaches, and sweet vanillin, is a rich,...

[SOLD-OUT] Torbreck Run Rig Shiraz 1996

    Region: SA- Barossa Valley

Robert Parker 96 points! The spectacular 1996 Run Rig reminds me of some of Marcel Guigal's single vineyard Cote Roties. Made from 40-120-year old Shiraz vines with 3% Viognier added to the blend, this wine, which is aged for 30 months primarily in new...
