Wine List/William Downie

[SOLD-OUT] William Downie Mornington Pinot Noir 2012

There's a kind of nourishing feel to this winethis feel of clarity of fruit, ease of drinking and loose-knit texture. There's savouriness in the aromas, twiggy oak, slate-like yet feathery tannins and the wine finishes with bright, juicy red currant and cranberry fruit/acid. There's a skin of chalk-like minerality settled over the fruit flavours, to make the textural experience more interesting. It's a pretty idiosyncratic expression, but immediately likeable and drinking is great over several days.

One of the greatest hits from rock star Pinot front-man Billy Ray Downie, played sensitively to a backing track of ethereal perfume, immaculate poise and silky tones. Come back for an encore in ten years.

More prominent fruit than the Gippsland bottling. Riper, less earthy. Beautiful and delicate.
