"Simply a superb wine, with deep, luscious, unctuous flavours yet very finely crafted and presented. Sweet, vibrant aromas of vibrant black and red cherries, dark plums and fresh floral notes are backed by heady spices. It's long, even and tightly poised, powdery and fine-grained, but simultaneously quite palate-staining in its delivery of vibrant cherry/plum fruit which it underpins with fine, tight-grained oak and wraps in bright acidity."

"This Gippsland version is new to the range, and is made from vines that are now 18 years old. Which, in Australian pinot noir terms, is a fair age. It was Downie's Yarra Valley pinot noir that brought attention to him but from 2008, I rank both his Mornington release and Gippsland release above it. This is a firm, minerally, sulphurous wine with a sour, earthen pulpiness. It's in desperate need of some bottle age, and has arguably been released too young. It is though beautifully integrated and balanced, with nothing at all sweet about it. It's all very grown up."
