"This is a most impressive, statuesque red with abundant bay leaf, dried herb, walnut and spice aromas. The core of sweet, ripe fruit is surrounded by a mass of savoury, drying but supple tannins. An oustanding wine, which will be very long-lived" - Gourmet Traveller Aug/Sep 2018
"From 1898 plantings on the Central Vineyard. The best malbecs of Langhorne Creek are world class if vintage conditions are good, but Wendouree's Malbec stands alone. Its classic role of providing some mid-palate flesh in a Bordeaux blend is self-limiting. Here the wine has all the structure and texture one could wish for, and that elusive pillowy fruit flavour that wants to be described as confit or jammy before you recoil in horror at using such words for Wendouree." - James Halliday Wine Companion
"You have to stop, and pause, when you read that this is ‘A straight Malbec from an 1898 Central vineyard planting’. The Malbec is my favourite wine from Wendouree, alongside the Cabernet Malbec.
It’s a little more herbal and perfumed than last few years of Malbec releases (aside 2011, of course). Baking spices, menthol, cedar, raspberry, plum and cocoa, strewn with mint and roses. Medium bodied, at most, tightly packed and very dense, with firm tannin, the distinct flavour of Brazil nuts and sweet fresh raspberries, crisp acidity, and a rose oil and lavender perfume wafting through the long fine finish, replete with granular tannin. A lighter, almost Cabernet Franc like iteration of the Malbec, but a charmer all the same." - Gary Walsh, Wine Front
