"2013 Voyager Estate Benchmark tasting. Wines tasted briefly, in appropriate glasses, and for me double blind so as not to induce the usual single blind ' I think this wine is this guessing game' that can happen at such tastings. A snapshot, not a leisurely assessment, though a considered one. Six wines per bracket served in appropriate glasses, picked for quality and interest. No stacking the deck to make the Voyager wines look good.
Creamy nose, yeasty savoury palate, light ginger spice oak, plenty of grapefruit and acid, but softer cut and less sharp in focus than wines 1 and 2 (Kumeu Hunting Hill & Bindi Quartz for the record). Fine boned, gentle style with a good finish. Grapefruity tang to the after-taste. Lacks a little intensity and stuffing, but time will likely sort that out."
