"The grapes come from the Johnno's vineyard planted 1908 on sandy alluvial soils " so tastes different to those grown on red earth. Hand picked and matured in a single new 2700L French oak cask.

A little meatiness then it's all red fruits (raspberry mainly) and prettiness with a touch of vanilla spiced oak. Light bodied, as much like a Pinot Noir as Shiraz, fresh and lively with plenty of fine acid and light tannin - foundations built on acid rather than extract. Fans out on the back palate. A wine of delicacy and interest. A classic Hunter Burgundy if ever there was one " only it's spotlessly clean too. A small step up from the 2009 I suspect."

"Medium garnet-purple-colored, the 2010 Johnno's Shiraz has a beguiling fragrance of roses, black truffles, salami and black cherry preserves over nuances of mulberries and damp earth. Light to medium-bodied and elegantly fruited in the mouth, it reveals a taut backbone of crisp acid and medium to firm, very fine tannins, finishing long and layered."
