Wine List/Torzi Matthews

[SOLD-OUT] Torzi Matthews Vigna Cantina Sangiovese 2012

"The go-to wine in the Torzi house apparently and I can understand why - juicy, berry driven Sangiovese with a proper bronze Sangio edge and a very affable personality. It's perhaps a little volatile and entirely more about rich Barossan fruit than strictly Sangio, the mid palate particularly full and rich and a bit one-dimensional. Yet still the sandy tannins stamp this as genuine Sangiovese and no questioning the commercial attractiveness - right on the money for a $20 Sangio."
Oz Wine Reviews

"Rich and concentrated, a creaminess and sweetness with a minor savoury undertow. Of its place and latterly its variety. Offers a light rub of tannin, a tickle of acid towards the back end, carrying the flavour - caress of aniseed. Concludes with a touch of drying tannin, coating the mouth, good flow across the tongue and toward a conclusion. I've sen it said that Sangiovese adapts to its surroundings, this speaks of them first, variety second."
Vinsomniac

"Domenic Torzi is arguably in the prime of his career as a winemaker. If he sustains this level of excellence then we are all in for a treat. If he improves then we'll have something very special on our hands. This Sangiovese is sourced from 16 year-old vines in the Koonunga and Moppa subregions of the Barossa. Initially it tastes more of place than it does of the grape in question. Over time though, flesh is given form with supple, leathery tannin.

Chocolate covered cherries, darker briary fruits, tar, earth and dried herbs. A melding of the Valley with the variety. And that's just about the perfect equation in my books."
