“Australian Paul Old has been making some damn good, damn interesting wines under his Les Clos Perdus label in Languedoc Roussillon, France. His 12 years overseas may have him looking back to Australian from time to time, so when old mate Stuart Nix and him got their heads together, they decided to craft some wines from Down Under together. This, The Lost Plot, is the resulting project. Fruit for this wine comes from Shelmerdine vineyards that span Heathcote. Though it is ostensibly an SGM blend, I believe a splash of nebbiolo is in the wine too.
I like this. The wine says friendly, drinkability, spicy fruit, but also shows some oomph of tannin that helps give some shape too. It’s earth and spice and dark fruits in scents, suede textured in palate, finishes juicy and with an amaro lick. In fact, when you go back to glass, you get the sense of a seriously good wine in the clothes of something simpler. Winner.”

The Heathcote Red is made from handpicked and handmade fruit grown at Shelmerdine vineyards in Heathcote, Victoria. Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, with Nebbiolo making a cameo.
This wine is a top and tail of Heathcote, showcasing how diverse this small and famed region is. The mineral driven Syrah from the cooler Merindoc vineyard in the south brings out the best of the generous and exotic fruit from the Willougbhy vineyard in the north.
This wine has a gentle floral nose of violets and lavender with some red fruit. Soft tannins fully coat the palate, with the ripe fruit balanced by iron filing minerality. A background of more exotic savoury characters. Great drinkability.
