"We love Mataro here at The Wine Front, and even more so when it's called by its local name, for local people.
I've written 'leather-bound cherries' in my draft note, and well, silly as it seems I've decided to go with that. Full bodied with inky, tarry depth, earth and dried herb along with spicy nutty oak seasoning. Chewy and ferrous with plump tannin and sweet boysenberry/bramble fruit flavour. Good finish. It's a wine that has 'lots of stuff'. I like it, and on that basis it gets a little edge up on the score."

"Do not think poorly of the Teusner gang just because they give their wine a name like the Dog Strangler. No animals were harmed in making this wine! 'Dog Strangler' is the name the French give to the brutish Mataro grape. This has pronounced briary notes, juicy plum and a firm earthiness whilst the palate borders on the earthier, slippery gravel path and provides enough bite to pair well with strong meats, even Schezuan steak."
