"The beautifully proportioned 2021 Crayeres Vineyard has expansive aromas with a mix of sweet blackberry plus more earthy charcoal and dried earthy tones. Dense dark berry flavours are wrapped up in a blanket of firm drying tannins to support a lengthy finish. A bold wine from this site that is well suited to the cellar." - Angus Hughson
"Wines off the Crayères Vineyard in the Wrattonbully region serve as a reminder that terra rossa soils do exist outside of Coonawarra. Wrattonbully lies adjacent to Coonawarra and shares some of the distinctive ochre-red clay over limestone soils of its famous neighbour.
The quality of Crayères Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz sourced off these soils is obvious. The Aussie red duo come to the glass, bright, fresh and purple-hued. The blend – 66% Cabernet, 34% Shiraz – exudes über-friendly Shiraz aromas, subtle and red fruited, with a touch of Cabernet-led earth and autumnal leaves with a light savoury influence. Less sweet fruited and spicy and definitely more dark cherry, bramble, earth and herbals to taste, concentrated and fleshy, with a warm embrace of oak. The palate is well defined in fine-knit tannins that persist, bringing good length. A classic style of Aussie Cabernet Shiraz producing a supple wine of some distinction. Seamless, too." - Wine Pilot
"The close spaced Crayères Vineyard (1.5m by 1.5m) is grown on the 37 million year old Terra Rossa ridge in Wrattonbully.
Fragrant cassis and white pepper with a touch of choc milk sweetness, rosewood sideboard, deep cabbage rose florals, dark raspberry, turned brown earth, trodden bramble, fresh bay leaf and a hint of spearmint. A harmonious palate that delivers more savoury than sweet. Wonderfully knit tannins binding a tight and straight flow of dark berry, brambly fruit and lingering sharp peppery spice. Achieves what it sets out to do with class, restraint and elegance. Yet again, another cellar friendly release." - Vino Notebook
"Drying and puckering, dark chocolate is laced throughout as are delicate spices. With a generous mouthfeel, dusty and powdery tannins light the fuse. Savoury laden with dried herbs, licorice is prominent with a flash of cola late. Give this some bottle age and its development will be stunning." - QWine
