[SOLD-OUT] Te Mata Coleraine Cabernet Merlot 2014

Wine Orbit 100 Points!
"Following the majestic 2013 offering, this is another phenomenal wine of sophistication and sublime seduction. Fabulous aroma of cassis, cigar box, violet and toasted almond on the nose. The palate delivers awesome concentration and weight, together with silky texture and fleshy mouthfeel, while remaining elegant and refreshing. Tannins are fine, chalky and exquisitely proportioned, making the wine classically structured. Once again Coleraine offers spectacular complexity, refinement and presence with an undeniable potential to evolve magnificently. This is back to back perfection."
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Bob Campbell 98 Points!
""A tougher selection resulted in a slightly lower than normal production (3,500 cases). Rich, quite dense and predictably classy wine, with red and black berry fruits, spice, anise and spicy oak flavours. Beautifully structured red - high energy with lovely integration of fruit and oak. A wine that more than lives up to its stellar reputation and shows obvious potential."
Bob Campbell MW, Gourmet Traveller Wine
Wine Front 97 Points!
"Dried roses and violets, pencil cases and cedar, black raspberry, blackcurrant, liquorice tea and chai " just magnificent to smell. Medium bodied, saturates the mouth with flavour and ultra-fine toothsome tannin, acidity is weaved through the wine like magic " all minerally and perfumed " spread of graphite tannin runs through its superb length. What a wine. A triumph."
Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, February 2016
Michael Cooper 5 Stars!
"Breed, rather than brute power, is the hallmark of Coleraine (correctly pronounced Cole-raine rather than Coler-aine), which since its first vintage in 1982 has carved out an illustrious reputation among New Zealand's claret-style reds. In all vintages since 2007, Cabernet Sauvignon has been the predominant variety. At its best, it is a magical Hawke's Bay wine, with a depth, complexity and subtlety on the level of a top-class Bordeaux. The grapes are grown in the Havelock North hills, in the company's warm, north-facing Buck and 1892 vineyards, and the wine is matured for 17 to 20 months in French oak barriques, predominantly new. From a notably warm, early-ripening season, the striking 2014 vintage (5*) is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60 per cent), Merlot (28 per cent) and Cabernet Franc (12 per cent). (Malbec is definitely not in the recipe.) Dark and powerful, but not heavy (13.5 per cent alcohol), it has dense, ripe flavours of blackcurrants, plums, spices and dark chocolate, great complexity, and a firm foundation of tannin. Already highly expressive, it should flourish for at least a decade."

"Celebrating 120 years of winemaking at Te Mata Estate coincides with an incredible feat. For the second year running their flagship Cabernet Merlot, the Coleraine, has been awarded a perfect score of 100 Points by Wine Orbit. This Hawkes Bay icon deserves all the accolades, combining a powerfully intense and complex palate with an impeccable structure for cellaring as well as being seductively textural and long in the mouth. The 2013 Coleraine sold out in record time, so do not miss out on this piece of vinous history!"
