"Takes some time to open up but then a lot of elements fall into place. Long, long lines of mature tannin. Classic chocolatey, cigar-like flavours. Blackcurrant and dark olive. And a line of acidity that keeps the wine fresh, almost light, while never separating from the wine's flavours. Lovely fresh, ripe berry fragrances pour forward over the course of a bottle. And despite its tannin framework, it maintains a clear, sturdy drinkability. You can go for this now, though it is built to be cellared. "
Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

"2007 Coleraine will prove to be one of the finest vintages of this legendary label Kiwi label, it's aromatically assertive, dense and brooding with floral, dark fruit, spice, coffee and a hint of iodine finding their way to the top. The palate is powerful; a serious match for what many classed-growth Bordeaux might throw at it. It's all encompassing fine tannin houses a sumptuous array of black fruits infiltrated by spicy brambly Cabernet and oak characters that finish with power and precision in sensationally refreshing style. Classic Coleraine that will prove to be one of the finest in future vertical tastings, maybe the finest yet, wait and see, cellar 20+ years if you store it with care."

Te Mata

3 "Super Classic" wines (Bullnose Syrah, Coleraine, Elston Chardonnay) & 3 "Classic" wines - Michael Cooper's New Zealand Wines Buyer's Guide 2018

"Te Mata Estate is New Zealand’s oldest winery, dating from the early 1890’s. It is a New Zealand family owned winery – a true estate, specialising in grape growing and winemaking from its ten Hawke’s Bay vineyards. Acknowledged as one of only five icon wineries in New Zealand, Te Mata’s completely handmade wines are renowned as the country’s finest." - Te Mata

"Coleraine is one of New Zealand’s most important, age-worthy wines. Cabernet Sauvignon usually forms 60% of the blend with Merlot around 30% and Cabernet Franc the balance... Many critics consider it up there with the best Bordeaux blends in the world. Judging by the quality of recent vintages, it seems very unlikely that we will see this change any time soon." - Decanter Magazine, 2016
