Wine List/Tatachilla

[SOLD-OUT] Tatachilla Foundation Shiraz 2004

Gary Walsh 95 Points!

Crimson red with brick hues. Complex aromas of liquorice, plum and cinnamon, layers of cinnamon and violet. A juicy plum and blueberry front palate with silky textures overlay a wine of incredible length, its bold tannins providing great structure. A seamless red wine that calls for decanting and breathing before service. 'Strong plum and spice aromas. There's a good spice profile with licorice and pepper that really wakes up the palate and good acidity that is in balance to the creamy oak!' -wineoftheweek.com, 'A beautifully integrated wine, with pure mulberry and mushroom aromatics, complex savoury fruits and long, elegant, silky textures. Impressively powerful, it doesn't need to show off!' Financial Review

It opens with plenty of perfumed vanilla nougat and cinnamon spice oak which slinks back into the depths of the wine with suitable airing. Then a rich panoply of black, blue and red fruits with menthol, licorice and coffee providing the extra dimension of flavour. It has impressive reach and coverage, flooding the mouth with flavour and smooth ripe tannin, and a pulsing long finish of impressive length. It's fair to say I enjoyed this one, but I'd drink it in the full flush of youth (with a suitable decant) to best enjoy its fruity vigour.
