"Interesting to taste these wines. They have plenty of tannin, well-settled acidity, not a great deal of oak, and a ‘natural’ kind of feel. That is, they’re about fruit (and therefore vineyard) expression, yet also come across with a deluxe/prestige feel.
Black fruit, liquorice, earth, grilled meat with pepper, dried roses, vanilla and exotic spices. Full bodied, rich and ripe, but savoury and controlled, thick with sooty and pleasantly raw-edged tannin, dense brooding flavour, a pulse of fresh acidity, then tannin and tar ‘n spice rolling into the long finish, and a surprising lingering mouth-perfume of roses and plums. Lots of layers here, and a more ‘natural’ feel than many Barossa Shiraz. It’s pretty bloody good."

"First up is Standish's namesake, The Standish, a Shiraz which hails from an organically farmed vineyard in Greenock. The soils here are ironstone and schist, the easterly aspect protecting the vines from the harsh western afternoon sun. This is always such a perfectly judged wine, concentrated but elegant at once, and Standish has said that 2015 was almost the perfect vintage for this site. With all the stars aligned, this could very well underscore that Standish Shiraz is some of finest ever produced in the region."
