Wine Front 96+ Points!

"CM and I visited Sorrenberg late February 2019. It was a strong reminder of Sorrenberg’s individuality, singular vision and unswerving devotion to organic lifestyle that resonates from home, to cellar under the home, and, of course, into the verdant wilds of the farm and vineyard. You get the sense of a ‘classic European estate’ but it’s wholly Australian, with the shriek of cicadas and hemming of thick thatches of gum trees leaving a lasting impression

I love that from the front door of the Morey home it’s a twenty second stroll past garden beds teeming with flowers, herbs and vegetables, ancient sheds and tractors, chooks and flotsam and jetsam of a life on a farm, to the vineyard. You almost need, as we did, to walk from the kitchen, a palpable beating heart of the family home, into the biodynamic scruff of vines to get the gist of what’s going on here.

Continuing the argument that this is arguably Australia’s best white wine, we have another brilliant, personality-imbued, detailed thing on our hands. The 2018 release is more crystalline and cut, athletic and diamond-edged than 2017 or 2016, though in the tension and velocity of fruit thrust there’s the slip of faint nuttiness, oatmeal, flint, steel and, interestingly, faint green herbs. Beautiful, long, agile and delicious to drink, it’s a wine of incredible pedigree, balance and everything that makes for epic drinking. Give it some cellar time and watch it sing. Or drink now and just have a damn good time."

Mike Bennie, Wine Front, March 2019

"The 2018 Sauvignon Blanc/ Semillon shows a bouquet of mixed citrus with a touch of golden kiwifruit and subtle herbal characters. The palate is tight with minerality and a hint of grapefruit. These characters combine to produce a multi layered wine with excellent length and finesse.

This wine comprises of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon. Most of the Sauvignon Blanc fruit had 8 hours skin contact prior to pressing. The Semillon component is crushed and pressed immediately after picking. This wine was 100% barrel fermented with predominantly larger barrels used. All went through natural yeast fermentation. The extended lees contact helps fill out the middle palate and gives this wine the extra dimension it is known for."
