"Unnerving consistency from one of my favourite (if not favourite) Australian wine producers… another stellar release here, though a little cuddlier from 2017. Great to see full flavour of grape with judicious accompanying ‘winemaking approach’. Charisma plus, drinkability. I showed the wine to a touring group of upper tier European wine journalists today alongside Tolpuddle Chardonnay, and this was preferred by most, with some sagely nods around the table. When they left, I swigged the last inch from the bottle. Satisfying.
It opens with strong chardonnay scents of ripe stone fruit, apple, honeysuckle, with faint nougat, almond and ‘general minerality’ chiming in. The palate is soft, mouth-filling, but inherently fresh, offering white stone fruit character, supple texture, incredible persistence and a general feel of richness despite the undercurrent of grapefruity acidity. More ‘mineral sense’ to be found in the palate, a lick of honey too. I’d be drinking this younger than most Sorrenberg chardonnay, it’s a wine that feels relaxed and comfortable now, but a spell in the cellar will also be a charm. Such pleasure."

"Cool site, elegant, and pure - crafted by husband and wife team, viticulturists and winemakers Barry and Jan Morey - the Chardonnay Sorrenberg produce is recognised as amongst the very best in the country. Previously described by Jancis Robinson MW as 'one of the best wines of my Australian travels' and as having 'lots of soul', this wine is so respected that each year it quickly sells out. Stylistically, it is medium bodied, with richness but restraint, it is a true gem of Beechworth."

"Our Chardonnay is 100% barrel fermented in french oak with 25-30% of this being new oak. To add complexity to the wine all of it goes through natural yeast fermentation, as well all of it goes through complete malo-lactic fermentation. This wine received extended lees contact for ten months with weekly stirring. Then a further eight months barrel maturation. The longer time in barrel restricts this wines openness for a few months so be patient. Minimal handling and filtration ensures maximum flavour is retained.
The bouquet of the 2017 Chardonnay displays aromas of citrus with some peach overtones. This follows on to the pallet to reveal an extensive and complex finish. The noteworthy oak compliments the refreshing, integrated acid creating a balanced, multi dimensional wine."
