This very special Great Western Show Sparkling Shiraz is made in small quantities as a super premium wine for which Seppelt has become famous.
A cool, wet spring and summer delayed vine growth, which contributed to uneven flowering, lower overall yields but higher quality. Rainfall in December/January was over three times the average, however, a drier, warmer March brought fruit to full maturity and vintage took place in excellent weather. Grape quality was extremely good all round, particularly for shiraz.
Matured in large oak vats for 16 months, the wine underwent a secondary fermentation in the bottle, aged on lees for 6 and a half years and was then disgorged in the Methode Champenoise tradition.
Rich, burgundy colour with some development at the rim. Amazingly fresh aromas of red berries, cherries, leather, dark chocolate and spice. The palate is rich, round and soft with sweet, berry-fruit flavours and soft, lingering tannins, finishing with complex integrated flavours. An excellent balance between fruit, tannin and acidity. A classic Great Western Sparkling Shiraz from a great year. Peak Drinking: Now " 2000 Alc/Vol: 13.5%. Notes sourced from Seppelt.
