Seppelt Show Sparkling Burgundies have been made at Seppelt's Great Western Winery in Victoria for almost a century. While there are other sparkling red wines made around the world, none bear resemblance to this Shiraz-based wine style made in the Methode Champenoise tradition.
Even within Australia, our Show Sparkling Shiraz is the only one made using the same traditional methods of 100 years ago. From an excellent quality year, the 1986 Seppelt Show Sparkling Shiraz is a classic wine which we believe, as time releases its breathtaking flavours, will achieve a status close to that enjoyed by the illustrious 1985.
The wine was matured in large oak casks for 16 months then underwent secondary fermentation in the bottle and was bottle matured on yeast lees for eight and a half years.
Deep ruby red in colour. The nose is very rich and complex showing stewed plum Shiraz fruit with hints of pepper and spice. Extended maturation on lees has added a trace of mushroom and truffles which will be enhanced by further bottle age.The palate is rich, round and soft with blackcurrant Shiraz fruit flavours and a long, velvety dry finish. The wine has great finesse and perfect balance, softened and integrated by extended bottle maturation on yeast lees. Peak drinking Now Alc/Vol: 13.0%. Notes sourced from Seppelt.
