Eight years on lees. First release since the 1994. Released in the first week of September 2013. Production of 1000 cases. The most prestigious sparkling red in the world. Traditionally released as a ten year old but impatience has won the day.

Its complexity announces itself like a flying red flag. Bright raspberry, mushroom, earth spice and leathery black cherry. Medium bodied but almost has a blackcurrant aspect. Has a big kick through the finish. Has a soft mellowness through the centre, though it still feels very young. Too young. Purple and red fruits. Dry, almost tannic finish. Soft and ready-enough to drink and yet it's been built to age. Has decades ahead of it, particularly under crown seal. The dryness of the finish is compelling. Thoroughly modern and yet thoroughly traditional. Drier and less flesh than the Seppelt SSRS of the 1980s, for instance, but long term it will be a tremendous wine. It will live for 30+ vintages if stored correctly.
Wine Front, June 18 2013.

Deep red with traces of purple, as well as brick-red tints. Very persistent, creamy mousse of fine bubbles. Complex, mature bouquet of leather Chesterfields, spices including hints of pepper and clove. Soft and mellow, with a rich creamy texture and a little sweetness. The finish is clean and has an impression of dryness.
