"Wild, briary aromas of cassis, prunes and currants, with meaty, earthy undertones of licorice and sweet cedar/chocolate oak. Smooth and polished, its elegant, creamy palate offers a fine length of vibrant cassis and plum flavours supported by sweet oak and framed by smooth tannins. Finishes long and tight, with some herbal complexity. Drink 2006-2010+."

This limited release Dorrien Cabernet is testament to the Seppelt commitment to quality and regional diversity. In addition, the Dorrien Cabernet is regarded as one of the Barossa's leading Cabernets. The Dorrien vineyard contains seven hectares of 56-year-old vines that consistently produce full-bodied wines with distinctive character. Exceptional parcels of fruit from the 1998 vintage have created great depth of ripe berry flavour. The 1998 Dorrien will age beautifully and reward careful cellaring. Vintage Conditions: The start of the growing season was quite dry. However by August, good rains gave the vines the perfect prelude to budburst just before the weather dried out again in October, remaining that way right up until harvest. Harvest went well overall and the quality of the grapes was exceptionally high. This wine was barrel aged for fourteen months in a combination of new French and American hogsheads. Deep ruby with hues of crimson. Displays an almost opaque concentration of deep red colour, indicating maximum fruit intensity. The nose displays ripe Barossa Cabernet characters of blackcurrant and earthiness, with hints of leather and vanillin oak. A full-bodied wine that has as much fruit as it does oak. The 98 Dorrien is rich in concentrated berry fruit and strong in varietal character, all of which is balanced to perfection with well-integrated American oak. Firm tannins, excellent structure and a pleasing length of flavour. Peak Drinking: 2007 - 2017 Alc/Vol: 13.5%. Notes sourced from Seppelt. Awards: The AP John Cooperage Trophy, 2002 Barossa Valley Wine Show Top Gold, 2002 Barossa Valley Wine Show Gold, 2001 Royal Melbourne Wine Show
