"I've not had a Samuel's Gorge wine before although, I have heard of them. Surprising really because McLaren Vale is one of the areas I thought I had pretty well covered. The packaging is very appealing - tactile and visual - although cork would not be my closure of choice I must admit. Winemakers will be winemakers mind you. Very pretty it is on the inside too - all bursting with berries black and red, tasteful mocha oak, some earthiness and a sort of flyspray sweetness. In the mouth full, but not heavy, delightfully easy to drink with berries and mocha flavours resting a nutty toothsome texture with fine lightly chewy tannins. Lengthy and balanced. It's very McLareny but offers an extra dimension of composure and finesse. Top stuff. One of those wines where I liked it so much, I'm concerned I may be under-rating it."

"The deep crimson-colored 2006 Shiraz was aged in French and American oak, 40% new. It emits an enticing nose of pain grille, pencil lead, pepper, and blueberry. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it reveals gobs of savory, spicy fruit, excellent depth, and a forward personality. This tasty Shiraz will drink well over the next ten years."
