"Excellent grenache. Well ripened and well handled. Redcurrant, roses, anise and cola. Cheerful and serious at once. Tannin to close. A firmness. An emphasis. It’s grenache with one nod to pinot noir, and another to nebbiolo. In the end it’s just grenache, done really well."

"A wonderful, fragrant, fuller expression of Grenache, rich in sweet spices and exotic berry fruit character. It pours over the palate in a generous sluice of flavour, stains the mouth a little and exits on a waft of clove-cinnamon and jelly fruits. It's a lush, lovely thing to drink."

Mike Bennie, Wine Business Magazine, October 2018

"Our journey with old vine Grenache continues with the 2016 vintage. Dusty tannins give the wine presence while its perfume dances from olfactory into flavour profile. Lingering aromatics of raspberry, blue cornflowers and dried tangerine are carried across the palate with silty fine-boned tannins and cleansing acidity.

The Grenache captures the rise of energy we feel in spring and autumn – the bookends of winter – as we enjoy that erupting explosion of colour onto our landscape. It’s crimson and all things red berry, the sweetness of wild flowers in a meadow just out of sight, carried to you by the wind."

Samuel's Gorge

Samuel's Gorge is a boutique winery, with a cult following, specialising in small batch red varietal wines of exceptional quality from McLaren Vale, namely: Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvèdre, Graciano and Tempranillo.

"Samuel's Gorge is a mosaic of dreams, with a principal philosophy of people and place. Samuel's Gorge was established by winemaker Justin McNamee in 2003.  Housed in an 1853 built farm shed, the winery and cellar door sits atop a ridge. Our winery overlooks the spectacular Onkaparinga River National Park to the North, and to the South, the ocean. The Samuel's Gorge label is an impression of the rugged landscape that is viewed from the winery; look closer and see our storyboard within the tiles. At Samuel's Gorge we focus on five key varietals; Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvèdre, Graciano and Tempranillo.

The wines of Samuel's Gorge are crafted by hand and reflect the landscape in which we work.  We reference history for texture, complexity and harmony. We engage patient techniques, utilising indigenous yeast, ensuring our ferments are long and slow.  Our winery is under the cover of a lean to and at night a ceiling of stars.  Visitors to Samuel's Gorge are welcome to see our process during harvest, in late summer. Driven by aromatics, texture, silkiness and intrigue our wines are great to drink now and yet have structural support and intensity that ensures they cellar well.  Samuel's Gorge wines reflect the unique vintage conditions and represent the personality and the imagination of the makers." - Samuel's Gorge
