Salomon Wieden Gruner Veltliner 2021

ONE OF THE FINEST NAMES IN AUSTRIAN WINES MAKES AN ARRESTING GRUNER VELTLINER - FULL, TEXTURAL AND MINERAL

"Gruner Veltliner has a classic spice note, as white pepper or a spicy herb. Salomon's wine is textbook in that regard, however, the note sits in the background behind beautiful ripe apple, lush pear and mineral flavours. It is a textural wine, weighty with a gentle grip. Present and powerful on the palate, it is balanced with a fresh citrus lift. Aged on fine lees in large oak, these techniques show in the wine's rounded palate and the faintest hints of pastry.

Salomon Undhof have long had a mastery over Austria's flagship white grape. Founded in 1792 Salomon Undhof is one of the oldest privately owned wineries of Austria, situated in the picturesque town of Stein on the Danube River. Today, seventh generation Dr Bert Salomon and his wife Gertrud are the custodians of almost 230 years of wine-making history. The grapes for this wine grow on steep terraced vineyards, which bring the finesse and minerality. Grapes are harvested and sorted by hand only. This meticulous and detailed approach enhances the striking power and mineral complexity of the wine." - Wine House

"Salomon Undhof is a figurehead of the Austrian wine history. White wines have been produced here from some of the best ‘Grand Cru’ locations along the Danube for 225 years. Well-known vineyards like Steiner Kögl, Pfaffenberg, Lindberg or Wachtberg … Thanks to Bert Salomon, the winery today mainly stands for excellent dry Rieslings and Grüner Veltliner - long-lasting, elegant wines for which the house is famous." - Pete Mosel, Falstaff
