"This is a blend of Shiraz and Grenache from McLaren Vale. It's smooth and medium-bodied, with Grenache dominant. The lifted perfumes of rose petal and spicy plum are alluring. The palate is seamlessly structured, with smooth tannin integration and subtle oak - the result of the use of a very big 5000L French oak vat. Super stuff." - Ray Jordan, The West Australian
"This is Steve Pannell's tribute to the old McLaren Vale 'Burgundies' of the 1950s and 60s. Often made from old-vine Grenache and shiraz (as this wine is), these wines were approachable, round and hearty when young, but also matured comfortably in the cellar. Loads of dark, warm fruit, a light sprinkling of soil and spice, all wrapped up in friendly tannins that hug the tongue. Pannell recommends drinking it with roast kid. I'm not going to argue." - Max Allen, Gourmet Traveller Jun/Jul 2018
"Made in a 4,300-liter vat, Pannell's 2016 The Vale Shiraz-Grenache is as pure an expression of McLaren Vale as you're likely to find. It's medium to full-bodied but taut and fresh. Framed by soft, pillowy tannins, the cherry and cinnamon flavours linger, supported by a cocoa powder-like texture on the finish." - Wine Advocate, September 2018
