My impression is that the 2015 still has quite a bit to say, but this is Montefico, where the wines are slow to reveal themselves. The palate is pinot-esque and pure, sheathed in fine ultra-minerally tannin, slightly meaty-gamey, sinewy in a way and oh so mouth-watering. "Barbaresco DOCG is produced every year from the 100 hectares of vineyards controlled by the Produttori within the appellation, mainly in the Barbaresco village itself.

In the best vintages, the historical crus are vinified separately. A not widely known vineyard, yet highly sought after by the Barbaresco aficionados. It is often compared to the slightly larger and more famous Montestefano vineyard because of the similar soil (high calcium) and close proximity between the two. Exposure is full South, and therefore quite warm, but it is not unusual for Montefico to have brisk morning hours during the growing season.

Austere when young and somehow less fleshy than Montestefano, it shows a beautiful mineral finish. It produces wines with the breed of any classic Barbaresco and with incredible complexity behind the tannins. First vintage released was 1970." - Produttori del Barbaresco
