"Rich Aussie Shiraz meets the cherry fruit and savoury finish of Italy's Sangiovese.
'il Briccone' (the rogue) is a blend of 85% McLaren Vale Shiraz and 15% Sangiovese.
A portion of Clarendon Shiraz was added to the blend this year to provide extra depth and texture.
Our aim is to make an Australian wine with a little piece of what we love about Italy inside.
Only Sangiovese, the variety of Italy's famous Chianti, can combine concentrated cherry character with a lively finish. Shiraz contributes plum, pepper and spice with its typical generosity.
We only use older oak barrels (for 14 months) to marry the varietal components of the wine.
The result is a wine that will go wonderfully with Mediterranean foods, or indeed the whole world of olive oil based cuisine. It is at home next to an antipasto platter and an unbeatable match for a good pizza.
