Pressing Matters R69 Riesling 2019

97 POINTS! JAMES HALLIDAY

"A medium-sweet Riesling with an excellent balance of residual sugar and acidity. Lime and floral notes lift off its pale yellow-green surface, alongside gentle spice and fresh honey. A luxurious, textural mouthfeel is held up by an energizing acid line, delivering wonderful intensity and freshness. Enjoy now or allow even richer honeyed characters to develop through careful cellaring." - Wine House

"With 69 grams per litre of residual sugar, the R69 is a jump into the medium-sweet style.  The cooler climate and extended growing season allows our Riesling to maintain the higher acid levels needed to balance this style with the sweetness. This is the surprising ‘food match’ wine – the sweetness pairs well with hot spices, fatty pork belly and Asian style cuisine, or simply with cheese and fruit. It is versatile and expresses an abundance of peach, pear and melon. The natural acidity provides a lovely clean finish.

Pressing Matters’ Rieslings are inspired by the Mosel styles but reflect the outstanding characteristics that Tasmanian Rieslings are capable of producing. Clones have been planted on their own roots and at a density of 5,000 vines per hectare.

Wines are now being produced with 4 levels of residual sugar (or levels of sweetness) which is reflected in the labeling:

  • R0 (very dry)
  • R9 (dry),
  • R69 (medium sweet) and
  • R139 (sweet).

Our wines are also significantly lower in alcohol than most Australian Rieslings and the intense fruit flavours are balanced with natural acidity." - Pressing Matters
