[SOLD-OUT] Penfolds St Henri 1999 (Minor Damaged Label)

Jeremy Oliver Rating 95!
Generally dry and cool weather during early summer were temporarily disrupted by a hot spell in late January before moderate conditions during vintage. Multi-regional sourcing and strong vineyard management resulted in parcels of fruit being harvested with hallmark fruit sweetness and ripe tannins. Maturation period of 12 months in large, old oak casks. Deep, dark red. Upon opening, aromas of cold meats and freshly baked panaforte interweave with a pure-fruited expression of Shiraz, unadorned by any discernable traces of oak. With breathing, glace fruit, spice and savoury nuances ascend. A textbook St Henri with ripened raspberry and nectarine fruits coupled with finely textured grainy tannins that roll off the tongue. Masses of fruit flavours peak on the mid to back palate with depth, concentration and softness. An impressive interplay of fruit, acidity and tannin. Alc/Vol: 14.0%. Notes sourced from Penfolds.
Blueberries, herbs, blackberries and liquorice cascade from the nose. The palate sports sweetly ripe, voluptuous fruit of good texture and intensity. The tannins are ripe and integrated, and although soft, provide all the support that the fruit requires. Tasted: May 2003 International Wine Challenge Gold 2003

Supple, elegant shiraz with a spicy floral perfume of cassis, blackberries and raspberries with peppery undertones of treacle and caramel, star anise and restrained cedary oak. Its long and satiny palate presents pristine, vibrant fruit over a fine-grained chassis, finishing smooth and gentle with delightful intensity.
