"Following the freakish 1996 wine isn't easy, but the 1997 St Henri is a generously flavoured and competent, if slightly simple and porty successor with attractively spicy, minty and boiled confection-like aromas of red and black berries. Typically backward in the oak department, it's soft and supple, with vibrant dark plum and cherry fruit, tightly-knit tannins and a savoury finish. Drink 2005-2009."

"Deep purple colour. Varietal Shiraz on the nose, minus oak! Aromas of stewed raspberries and loganberries, plus savoury, meaty nuances and hints of chocolate, cocoa and black tea in the background. Mouthfilling and expansive, yet perfectly poised palate. Generously fruity, with liqueur chocolate and dried fruit flavours adding complexity. Long and lingering, with attractive, velvety tannins. Will drink beautifully on release - especially if decanted and given some air - but could just as easily be left in the cellar for 8-10 years."
