Campbell Mattinson 95 points!
Campbell Mattinson 95 points!Penfolds RWT Shiraz is made with Barossa Valley shiraz matured in (this year) 80 percent new French oak. It was first released with the 1997 vintage, launched in 2000.
This is a fresh, silken, seductive release. Blueberries, intense blackberry, and blue-faced oak. Fresh-tilled earth, coffee, soy. Voluptuous and generous and drawn with tremendously fine, strong chains of tannin. The tannin profile here sets it apart; this will age (very) long term. Gloriously engineered. Glorious length. Fresh, saucy new oak plays a key role, true to the history of this wine, but it's hard to argue against the idea that this will age magnificently over the long term.
Wine Front, 24 April 2013
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 RWT Shiraz is a little closed showing intense and youthful primary aromas of cassis, kirsch, cedar, prunes and a touch of mulberries. Rich, muscular, packed with flavor, it is full-bodied, concentrated and finishes long. Very youthful still, it will drink from 2014 to 2026+.
Lisa Perotti-Brown, eRobertParker.com, Wine Advocate #205 Feb 2013
"A deep, dark-fruited Barossa shiraz of remarkable intensity remarkable intensity and freshness. Its pristine, translucently bright and deeply layered bouquet of blueberries, cassis, blackberries, dark chocolate, fresh cedar and vanilla oak is lifted by scents of violets and cassis, minerals and graphite. Surprisingly elegant given the density of its vivacious fruit and the firmness of its structure, it's dark and palate-staining with a perfectly integrated spine of fine, gravelly tannins. An exemplary, long-term wine."
