Mike Bennie 91+ points!"... 2009 draws upon fruit from Padthaway, Barossa Valley, Langhorne Creek, McLaren Vale and Robe. It's matured in American oak hogsheads for 12 months. Lord of Winemaking at Penfolds, Peter Gago, is very keen on the 2009 vintage...
Dark colour. Big hit of vanillin, nougat oak with a slightly resinous twang. Quickly wafts away to dark, concentrated fruit characters. The palate is big and broody, omnipresent with a slick, juicy feel. Polished and shiny with sweetness and spicy oak, the wine does whip itself into shape with whisks of acidity, life and youthfulness in the close. The Bin 28 shows classic density, matched with stacks of spicy, oaky oil slick intensity. Enthusiasts will love this muscular flex, though it's all a bit much for me."
