Campbell Mattinson 92 points!
Campbell Mattinson 92 points! One of the wines I really like is the Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz 2005 ($33). I love its rolling, fleshy, assertive tannin. It's got lots of plummy, earthy flavour and a nice kiss of toasty oak. It's deceptively substantial, its tannin and acid taking time in the glass to settle. I sat with this wine for a while and liked it more and more - the first time I tasted it, last September, it looked brilliant, and I now suspect that it had been decanted for a while at this tasting. It's a really good shiraz, and at 20-ish bucks it is really good buying - despite its alcohol warmth.

A ripe, slightly spirity but typically generous Barossa shiraz, this meaty and slightly reductive young red has a liqueur-like aroma of black and red berries, plums and dried herbs overlying sweet cedar/chocolate/vanilla oak. Plush and juicy, it's soft, supple and approachable, with a moderately rich palate of concentrated fruit and creamy oak framed by fine, loose-weave tannins. (Barossa Valley, 17.0/90, drink 2010-2013+)
