'By any measure, Lindsay McCall must be Australia's most successful Pinot Noir maker. Certainly his show results are matchless. The ideal, steeply slopeing, north-facing, sun-trap vineyard site at Red Hill South is that rare thing: a warm site in a cool region. Ripeness is so good the vineyard even produces top Shiraz most years. In great years, such as 2003 was, Paringa Estate makes three pinots, and all are excellent. This limited output Reserve is astonishingly concentrated, a sumptuous wine of profound sweet black-cherry aroma and flavour that fills the mouth and overwhelms the senses. It's at once very pinot-like and very burgundian. It has the length and structure to age superbly: my guess is at least six more years and probably 10.'
