[SOLD-OUT] Orlando Jacobs Creek Centenary Hill Shiraz 2003

2003 Centenary Hill Shiraz The Barossa Valley received average rainfall in the winter of 2002, providing soil moisture at depth in time for budburst. Spring saw dry, windy conditions that reduced disease pressure in the area. By November, winds had calmed, making the warm conditions ideal for flowering and set, with yields reduced by lower bunch numbers. Hot, dry spells were experienced in early summer, with a rain event in February. Cool temperatures followed, but fortunately temperatures increased late in the vintage, allowing blocks to ripen to desirable sugar and flavour development. Winemakers performed regular vineyard inspection and assessments, choosing only two Barossa Valley Shiraz blocks that reached the exceptional standard of Centenary Hill. These were continuously monitored, ensuring harvest took place at the optimum time for the colour and flavour development required of this style.

Colour: Vibrant ruby red. Bouquet: Concentrated, complex aromas of blackberry and dried fruit with hints of spice and black pepper, supported by well integrated coconut and vanilla oak. Palate: Intense dark berries, dried herbs and spice are accompaniedby rich fruit sweetness on the mid palate. Nuances of layered black olive, dried fruit and clove evolve with time in the glass. A soundly structured wine, well balanced with a long finish of mocha oak. It is remarkably youthful for its age and is only just beginning to display the additional layers of complexity brought about by careful bottle maturation.
