Wine List/Murdoch Hill

[SOLD-OUT] Murdoch Hill Estate Pinot Noir 2016

'It&rsquo s such a lovely wine to drink, easy as, fun, fresh and vital.' - Mike Bennie, Wine Front!

"Hello again, Murdoch Hill. One of the most consistently good wine producers coming out of South Australia, with a raft of interesting wines, side by side with more ‘classic’ renditions, and all typically well priced. Here’s a more classic rendition.

Cherry pip, rose hip, musk and pot pourri. A pretty start from first sniff. Lithe and yet frisky in the palate. More of the red cherry and rose hip jostle going on, a swish of faint, feathery tannins and a brisk, cool acid freshness that drags the pure, fresh fruit flavours long. It’s such a lovely wine to drink, easy as, fun, fresh and vital. No brainer."

Mike Bennie, Wine Front, April 2017

"The fruit was hand picked and de-stemmed, allowing for the retention of whole berries, open fermented in small one ton vats. Varying levels of whole bunches were included in the ferments ranging from 25% - 100%, this aided structure and spice to the wine. Minimal maceration during fermentation was adopted to produce a elegant wine style. Matured in French barriqes with 15% new oak to achieve complexity and length to the wine.

This Adelaide Hills expression of Pinot Noir displays classic lifted cherry fruits and savory spice, early picking keeps this wine vibrant and fresh whilst showing softness with juicy strawberry fruits and supportive sappy fine tannins from careful stalk management."
