“Single vineyard riesling from one of the absolute stars of the Clare Valley region. In fact – I’d reckon this riesling doesn’t get quite the recognition it deserves.
Exhibit A. This is a beautiful Clare Valley riesling. It screams Clare, it insists on riesling. Lemon, lime and talc, assertive with flavour but pure and darting through the finish. Accessible now, in a delicious way, and yet made for later. You really do just want to guzzle this, even as you admire it.”

"An outstanding limited release Riesling of the highest echelon, regularly acknowledged among the finest in Australia and admired around the world."
- Mount Horrocks
The low yielding Watervale vineyards have a southerly facing aspect and soils are a mixture of red loam, loamy/clay. The fruit comes from a single, unirrigated, hand-pruned vineyard. These Riesling vines were originally two-wire trained (the majority of Clare Valley producers still use the traditional two-wire training system). Owner and winemaker Stephanie Horrocks, however, chose to change the training system so that the canopies are now trained upwards, with foliage wires and vertical shoot positioning. The grapes were hand picked, starting 15 March, in the cool of the morning, cool crushed and de-stemmed and only the free run juice was used. The must was fermented by neutral yeasts in stainless-steel tanks and fermented to dryness. No malolactic fermentation. The wine was bottled without fining.
Pure lime fruit and just the merest whiff of smokiness on the nose. On the palate, generous citrus flavours even though it is so crisp and lively. Tight, precise with lovely purity to a long finish.
