[SOLD-OUT] Matrot Volnay Santenots Premier Cru 2019

JASPER MORRIS 91-94 POINTS!

"Pinot Noir from vines with an average age of 30 years. Complete destemming followed by cold vatting for 3 to 6 days at 10°C. Fermentation with natural yeasts for 12 to 18 days. Pumping-over/pigeage twice a day depending on the vintage. 15 months maturing on lees in oak barrels of which 20% are new. Three months in a steel vat to prepare the wine for bottling. The Volnay Santenots terroir, located in the town of Meursault, produces red wines which are complex. They are rich, well-structured and elegant. Black fruits dominate the bouquet, underlined by soft and velvety tannins.' - Matrot

"The 2019 Volnay Santenots 1er Cru has an intensenose of red cherries and wild strawberry, touches of incense emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, supple and lithe, leading to a slightly ferrous finish. Long in the mouth, it is not the most opulent Santenots, but I think that work in its favour." - Neal Martin, Vinous

"An attractively perfumed and spicy nose is comprised mostly by notes of violet and dark cherry that are also trimmed in a touch of wood. The sleek, very fresh and intense flavours are tautly muscular before concluding in a detailed, powerful and mildly austere finale. Lovely." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

"Fine mid purple. Sheer class on the nose while awaiting the detail. Richer deeper raspberry, worth spending time over this, slightly firmer tannins behind, but the quality of fruit wins the day. No more than medium bodied, yet a Volnay, which will give pleasure over many years." - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
