"The full-bodied 2015 Cornas les Arênes verges on surmaturité, its cassis flavors fitting with melted chocolate notes. But those are framed by solid notes of crushed stone, pastry crust and roasted meat, which restore a sense of place and identity to this ripe, creamy wine. It should drink well for more than a decade."

"The vineyard of Cornas enjoys a reputation established for a long time. We often quote Charlemagne, Saint Louis and Louis XV who drank regularly. On the eve of the French Revolution, there was talk of the "black" wine of Cornas, and in the early nineteenth century it was ranked equally with the Châteauneuf-du-Pape. As in Côte-Rôtie or Condrieu, the difficulty of working the land provoked an important rural exodus. It is now a recognized wine that has come under the spotlight of the media.

Part of the vineyard is located on decomposing granite, locally called "gore", the other is on clay-limestone alluvial soils. This type of soil gives powerful and fleshy wines with well-coated tannins. Granites of this type also give power and tension to the wine.

Intense red, with some purplish reflections. Very ripe fruit, raspberry and blackcurrant jam. Blackberries, spices, sour cherries. Tannins dense and tight with good persistence in the mouth."
