M. Chapoutier Crozes-Hermitage Les Meysonniers 2020

NO ONE KNOWS THE RHONE LIKE CHAPOUTIER! THIS IS A FRESH, SOFTLY FRAMED AND BOUNTIFUL SYRAH

"Velvety, fruit-forward 100% Syrah whose elegance and balance represents the top expressions of Syrah in the Crozes-Hermitage region. In the masterful hands of Michel Chapoutier this "little sibling" to Hermitage is marked by its fruit sweetness and the subdued pepperiness typical of cool climate Syrah. Chapoutier's approach is to bring forward the intensiy, power and aromatics of his grapes, rather than any oakiness. It tastes plummy, with cherry and prominent black berry. Hints of pepper are matched by subtle spice, herb and grilled nuts. A smoothly texture, elegant and flavoursome wine." - Wine House

"A striking and familiar bouquet of minerality, variety and concentration. Aromas and flavours of boysenberry and black currant, there’s a five spice quality with anise and clove, red meats and button mushroom, some barrel spice qualities and moments of new wood bite. Lovely balance, weight and texture on the palate with a chalky fine tannins mouthfeel, back bone of acidity and fruit concentration reflecting the bouquet. Deliicous, new, fresh and well made. There’s lots to like about this wine with or without food, but if you did want a food option I suggest a mild semi-hard cheese with fig wholewheat crackers and quince paste." - Cameron Douglas MS

"Zesty, dark and red-fruit notes. Spicy and ripe on the palate. Freshness maintained. Grainy tannins but honed, giving some grip on the finish." - Jancis Robinson

"Our red Crozes-Hermitage “Les Meysonniers” comes from vines which are at least 25 years old. This wine is made from organically grown grapes. The exclusion of all chemical products (in particular herbicides), and the ploughing of the vineyards, enables the vine to plunge its root system deep down into the heart of the soil. Deeper root systems make the vine’s physiological behavior more even and provide better resistance to sudden changes in temperature.

The slight slopes are directed to the South. The soil consists of a mixture of clay, pebbles and gravel. The alluvial terroir of Crozes-Hermitage was formed by terraces from the Rhône and Isère rivers.

This Crozes-Hermitage is vinified in a traditional way with pumping-over and treadings in concrete tanks. Mainly aged in concrete tanks for around 12 months.” – M. Chapoutier
