"Captivatingly fragrant, lifted and complex shiraz from the Yarra Valley that carries dark, vibrant red/purple colour " it's a wine you can really get lost in. Musk stick, red fruits, plum, sweet cinnamon, mace and vanilla spices " mouth-watering. The palate has lacy, pinot-like structure, with bright acid, plum and cherry flavour and lively bounce through the finish. Long plum-stone and spice finish, with a late smoky twist. Superb."

Here's proof that you can produce an outstanding wine even in the worst vintage imaginable " provided you're prepared to declassify anything not up to standard. Lingering, perfumed and fine, it's all about lifted violets, pepper and black plum flavours and finely-textured tannins."

"The 2009 Yarra Valley Syrah is sourced from an elevated vineyard in St. Andrews where the rocky, depleted soil and steep, windswept slopes produce a more feminine, elegant style of Syrah. Fermented using wild yeast with 40% whole bunches included, and bottled without fining or filtration. Lifted peppercorn, cardamom and bright red fruit, a wine to match slow braised ox tail with a rich, tomato based sauce."
