"I'm not the biggest fan of cool climate Shiraz you'll meet, although I do like it well enough. There's 55 dozen of this made with grapes coming from ' the crest of the hill' block of the St Andrews vineyard - bunch selected at that. This was tasted alongside the 08 De Bortoli Syrah and 08 Wedgetail Estate Shiraz (more later) and was the best of the three. It's stony and spicy with green peppercorn and a sort of gunpowder smell but it's ripe (enough) too with plenty of bright red berry fruits. Light, vibrant and crunchy with a fine grained stalkiness that's challenging - architectural and a little stark, but again doesn't come over as being under-ripe. It's distinctly spicy and a little nutty and has no shortage of length. If you're a fancier of cool climate Shiraz, you might well rate it even higher."
The Wine Front, 2010
Sourced from the crest of the hill in the St. Andrews block where the rocky soils produce wines of greater elegance and finesse. Only the best bunches from the healthiest vines were selected. Hand sorted in the winery before wild yeast fermentation with 100% whole bunches included. Held on skins for 8 weeks before pressing and maturation in old French oak. Bottled without fining or filtration. A perfumed, feminine syrah. Match with duck confit. Alc 12.5% Only 55 Dozen produced. Luke Lambert Wines
